What is Sculptra?

Sculptra® is an FDA-approved injectable made by Galderma. Its active ingredient is poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible material. Instead of filling a line or hollow with a gel, Sculptra stimulates your body's own collagen production. Collagen is the structural protein that gives your face its support, and it declines with age and with significant weight loss. As new collagen forms, the improvement builds gradually over months.

That gradual pace is the point. Nothing changes overnight, so the result tends to read as rested and refreshed rather than "done". It is a good fit for people who want subtle, natural-looking change.

Is Sculptra a dermal filler?

Sculptra is injected like a filler and is often listed with dermal fillers, but it works differently. A hyaluronic acid filler such as RHA® filler adds volume the day it is placed. Sculptra is a biostimulator: its effect comes from the collagen your skin builds in response over the following weeks and months. Some people choose one, some combine the two, and some need neither. That is decided at your consultation.

Can Sculptra be used for lip injections?

No. Sculptra is not a lip filler and is not injected into the lips. Lips move constantly and need a soft, flexible product, which is why lip enhancement at Le Skin Aesthetics uses hyaluronic acid filler from the RHA® Collection. If fuller or more defined lips are your goal, our lip filler page explains how we approach them.

Who is Sculptra for?

Sculptra suits people whose concern is gradual, spread-out volume loss and skin that has lost some of its support, rather than one fold or one feature. That can follow ageing, and it is common after fast weight loss, which we cover in our article on facial volume loss from weight loss. Because it treats the support under the skin, it pairs naturally with facial balancing, which looks at proportion across the whole face. Your provider will tell you honestly whether Sculptra fits your goals or whether another option would serve you better.

Sculptra, Radiesse and RHA filler: what is the difference?

All three are on our injectables menu, but they do different jobs. RHA is a hyaluronic acid filler. It adds volume and shape right away, and it can be dissolved if needed. Radiesse provides structural support and can also stimulate collagen. Sculptra stimulates your body's own collagen production for gradual improvement over months. If you have read about one of these for a specific area, bring that question to your consultation.

Who performs Sculptra treatments at Le Skin Aesthetics?

A board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with advanced training in aesthetic and regenerative medicine performs every Sculptra treatment. Le Skin Aesthetics was founded by Ericia L. Cannon, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, who performs every treatment at the practice herself, with an emphasis on safety, facial anatomy and natural-looking results.

What happens at a Sculptra appointment?

Your visit begins with a personalized assessment and a conversation about your concerns, medical history, previous treatments and desired results. We discuss appropriate options, expected outcomes, pricing and aftercare before moving forward with treatment. Some treatments need a separate appointment or extra preparation, and your provider will tell you if Sculptra does in your case. You do not need to know exactly which product you want before you book.

How many Sculptra sessions will I need?

It varies. Because collagen builds gradually, Sculptra is usually planned as a series of sessions spaced weeks apart rather than a single visit. How many you need depends on your face, the areas treated and the result you want. We set out a plan with you at your consultation, and you are never required to complete it all at once.

When will I see results, and how long do they last?

Expect a gradual change, not an instant one. Some fullness right after treatment comes from swelling and settles within days. The real result develops over the following weeks and months as your own collagen forms. Because the result is your own collagen, it is designed to last longer than many hyaluronic acid fillers, but how long it lasts depends on your age, your skin and your metabolism. Individual results vary, and nobody can promise exactly how your face will respond.

Downtime and aftercare

Temporary redness, tenderness, swelling or bruising can occur after any injectable treatment. You receive specific aftercare instructions for Sculptra that explain what to do at home, what is normal and when to contact us. If you are concerned about your recovery at any point, contact us promptly for guidance.

Can Sculptra be reversed?

No. Hyaluronidase, the enzyme that dissolves hyaluronic acid filler, only works on hyaluronic acid, so it does not dissolve Sculptra. Our article on dissolving old filler explains the difference. That is one reason we build Sculptra results gradually and conservatively, session by session.

How should I prepare?

Please give us an accurate medical history, including medications, supplements, allergies and previous aesthetic treatments. Let us know about upcoming dental work, medical procedures, travel or special events. Do not stop prescribed medications unless the healthcare professional who manages them tells you to.
